Nintendo has already offered a voluntary replacement program for its Wii controller strap, following news of its delicate nature in the face of some extreme action moves. The company must have been hoping for a brighter Christmas, but that is the very thing that has caused more problems. It seems Christmas lights can throw the controller’s sensors off target and interfere with gameplay.
In a statement, Nintendo has admitted that: "where the Wii sensor bar is sat near a direct light source there may be some minor interference, this does not mean that there is any fault with your Wii.”
The problem was first noticed when users started posting their complaints online.
One blogger said the problem was solved when he switched off the Christmas tree lights, returning if they were switched back on.
Nintendo said the best performance of its Wii games console was achieved by avoiding bright light sources behind or near the TV, or those shining towards the Wii remote or reflecting off the TV screen.
