Sony Ericsson K800i silver editionThe success of the K800 and K790 Cyber-shot phones helped Sony Ericsson rake in €10,959m (around £7.2bn) before tax in 2006. Music products were also a big draw for gadget fans, as the company flogged 60 million music-enabled handsets, which included 17 million Walkman phones.

The hit products helped boost the mobile phone firm’s sales to 74.8 million units, with 26 million handsets being knocked out to punters in the last three months of the year alone.

Sales were no doubt also helped by the release of a special silver James Bond edition of the K800i.

Sony Ericsson estimated that the 2006 global handset market included around 980 million units, higher than previous forecasts of over 950 million units for the year.
