xbox_360_elite.jpg According to reports from Japanese tech website ITmedia, the Xbox360 could soon be shipping with a Blu-Ray drive add-on to satisfy customers demands for the next-generation disc format.

In an interview with the website, Microsoft Interactive Entertainment Division boss Peter Moore said that the Xbox 360 could have an add-on Blu-ray drive launched for it, if it looks like this type of disc is winning the next-gen format war. Although HD-DVD is the format of choice for Microsoft, Moore pointed out that having external drive allows the console to adapt to whatever disc standard is the eventual winner.

Moore said that that future additions of the Xbox won't incorporate a built-in next gen drive as this would limit the console user's choice. He also said Sony's insistence in putting Blu-Ray in the PS3 could limit gamers if HD-DVD won out in the end.

Of course, both Xbox and PS3 have a potential Blu-Ray/HD-DVD killer within, it's called a hard drive and internet connectivity.
