Not everyone wants to own the reassuringly expensive iPod, so for those
people who don't want an iPod Shuffle but would like something similar,
Creative has unveiled the Zen Stone. And it is a good deal cheaper than the Shuffle too! (Although arguably not as nice looking!)Basically the thing is very tiny, but packs a 1GB punch worth of memory. It measures 54x35x13 mm and weighs in at 19g. It is a little bigger than a Shuffle but at these sizes its hardly worth an argument.
It takes a little while to charge up and putting song files onto it is a case of connecting it to a computer locating the music folder and dropping the files there (You can also use Windows Media Player. It plays both mp3 and WMA files (not AAC files) and with 1GB of memory to play with, that will give you a good few album's worth on entertainment on the move.
There is no display (just like the Shuffle), you control the player via the play/pause button. There is a volume control and previous and next buttons to skip through music. A little switch on top lets you shuffle music or repeat them in a loop. If you have albums placed in individual folders you can skip through album by album (which is something we don't believe the Shuffle can do).
The player is claimed to have a battery life of around ten hours which is a figure close to what we got. The music quality is good out of the box with the headphones supplied. Of course, if you have decent set of headphones you will get a much better aural experience with the Zen Stone.
Really, for the price you would be a fool not to buy it as a second mp3 player.
