London Underground Oyster travelcardHi-tech travel is all the rage in London these days. In fact, so many commuters and other passengers are using Oyster cards to get around the city that London Underground is shutting 40 ticket sales offices.

Transport For London says the demand for paper tickets has fallen 80 per cent since Oyster was introduced and just three per cent of tube journeys now use paper single and return tickets.

“Oyster has driven the public shift from paper to electronic smartcards, so there’s no need to staff offices,” a TFL spokesman said today.

Wimbledon Park, North Ealing, Boston Manor and Mansion House are among the sales offices that will be closed from March 2008.
