Jaguar XJ220Ford is looking to offload its Jaguar and Land Rover automobile brands to another company, according to media reports. The luxury brands could be sold to a private equity firm for as much as £3bn.

The move isn’t a complete surprise, as Ford sold its Aston Martin sports car business back in March for £479m.

Jaguar currently employs around 10,000 UK workers in the Midlands, while Land Rover has approximately 9,000 staff based in Warwickshire, Solihull, Gaydon and Halewood.

The two names sit alongside other great British car brands such as Rolls Royce.

Prince Charles owns both Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles – and recently converted both of them to run on biodegradeable petrol made from rape seed oil.
