If having a flash car is sinful then most of my boss's neighbours are
going straight to hell! The Vatican has issued its "ten commandments"
to drivers, one of which warns against having a car "as a means for
outshining other people and arousing a feeling of envy". Of course,
this has brought the wrath of expensive car makers the world over,
especially those in Italy.
The Vatican released the document, called the "Guidelines for the
Pastoral Care of the Road", which tells drivers how to behave
themselves on the road. I.e. Thou shalt not cut me up in your Vespa and
then give me the finger!". It is rule number five (or V in Latin) that
has irked some in the motor trade. Rule five states "cars shall not be
for you an expression of power and domination, and an occasion of sin."
(More here - it's a long document and boring to read.)Ferrari's general manager Amedeo Felisa hit out at the edict and said that most people bought his company's cars for the love of driving but admitted that some bought the desirable cars as a status symbol. "Unless having fun has become a sin, I don't believe it (to be wrong)," said Felisa to Reuters. He said that he hoped it was not a sin to have a expensive motor but added: "You should commit at least one from time to time." He was speaking at the company's 60th birthday celebrations (we've sent them some furry dice as a present - we hope they like them!) Ferrari makes some very nice cars indeed but they cost a bit! |
