Page 1 of 2 It’s not exactly a moniker that trips off the tongue, but on first look the Photosmart R937 digital camera from HP proves the old adage, “what’s in a name?” We got to play with one while HP was busy showing off its top kit for Christmas 2007 and initial reactions were very promising...
As you can see from the image of the R937 in our hand, it looks like a beast of a machine compared to today’s tiny, slimline whipper snappers. But that size hides a host of cool features. First up is the 9.14cm (3.6”) display which practically fills the back of the camera. This allows you to get a good peak both at your intended targets as you snap away and at your images once they’re stored. But that big viewing space is also an interactive touchscreen. And as the main navigational tool, it allows menus to be activated and options chosen by prodding it with your finger. That makes additional features such as onscreen editing easy, letting you make use of an excellent red-eye reduction process, as well as effects such as turning the image into a coloured poster or slimming yourself down by squashing the picture. Thankfully, editing an image doesn’t mean you’ll ruin it if you hit a wrong button or don’t like an effect you’ve applied. Every time you do something to a pic the camera saves it as a new file so the original is protected.
