It's been all quiet on the Skype news front for a long time. But they say it's the quiet ones you have to watch and that's certainly true of the internet telephone service. Not content with launching a Skype-enabled handset with mobile phone company 3, Skype is also pioneering better video-conferencing services for PC users.
Skype and Logitech announced their collaboration to deliver a new standard of video calls over the internet, which the two firms call 'High Quality Video'. Logitech said that High Quality Video on Skype offers “image-perfect detail and clarity”, to help people connect better without having to buy and install expensive video-conferencing equipment. High Quality Video will be included in the Skype 3.6 software for Windows and version 11.5 of Logitech’s QuickCam software. The update displays VGA-quality video calls at 640x480-pixels at up to 30 frames per second. Users will need to be on a broadband connection at 384kbps or higher, use a High Quality Video-certified Logitech webcam and have a PC with a dual-core processor. Skype 3.6 for Windows is expected to be available as a free download at skype.com in early November and will support 28 languages. The Logitech QuickCam Software version 11.5 is available now as a free download. |
