Could Wii finally be getting a DVD player?

wii_small.jpgThe Wii is a jolly good games console but compared to the whistles and bells you have on the Xbox 360 and the PS3 it is a little wanting. So we warmly welcome news that Nintendo could be planning to release a DVD add-on to the console.

Although it won't be happening before Christmas, Nintendo did confirm that it will be coming, although when and how is still very much speculation.

In a low-key FAQ buried somewhere on Nintendo's Japanese site (presumably behind a door marked "beware of the crocodile") said that DVD-playback was on the cards but not this year as it needed to ensure sufficient supplies of the console.

There wasn't a denial of a new Wii console sometime next year. The most likely scenario would be that firmware will be added to new consoles once supply has caught up with demand.

More here somewhere!
