We have fond memories of the fourteen wooden televisions we had in the seventies - one even worked, but was in black and white and the reception for BBC2 was appalling. (Shame really as I wanted to watch Star Trek but Mr. Spock et al. always looked like they were in a snowstorm). Anyhoo, those days are about to come back as one manufacturer is launching a range of wooden tellies that are bang up to date with modern technology. It has taken enterprising Swedish company Swedx to unveil the new LCD TVs that come in ash, beech or sapele wood finishes. The company, touting its green credentials, said that the boxes are from "a natural, renewable, sustainable, recyclable resource" (a bit like BBC1 then). Although at £349.99 a pop, you'd be forking out a lot to feel envirosmug. In reality, the sets are basically Samsung tellies in a wooden skin. Which is good, as Samsung make some really excellent sets. Each box features HDMI Component, Integrated Digital Tuner and built-in speakers. Here are some more specs.
The TVs are available from Dixons now.
