With only a few weeks to go before we sit down to calorific turkey dinners designed to pile on the pounds, it appears that Nintendo's next-gen console is doing the same, only this time the pounds are piling on Wii consoles sold on internet auction sites.
The Wii is getting more difficult to find than Lord Lucan on the back of Shergar. Various retailers, such as HMV, Game, Tesco and Woolworths have only managed to get sporadic stocks coming in, causing shoppers to hit the likes of eBay to get hold of a console in time for Christmas. Consoles appear to be changing hands for up to £400 on auction sites.
Internet retailer Amazon, reported that when it managed to get 1,400 Wii consoles, it sold them all in 10 minutes flat.
Nintendo is making around 1.8 million consoles a month, but even this figure doesn't seem to quell the demand for it.
Luckily, this website keeps track of Wii stocks in the US. Called Wiitracker, site automatically checks the listed merchants on a regular basis to see whether or not they have Nintendo Wii Console and Nintendo Wii Systems and Bundles in stock.
In the UK, Wiifind does a similar job. Good luck Wii hunting!
