Page 1 of 3 Another day at CES, another big company announcing improvements to its kit. Memory and media player manufacturer SanDisk had a number of areas ready to impress us. If it wasn’t upping the storage on its microSDHC cards, or doubling the capacity of its View and Clip players, then it was launching HD video Flash cards for digital camcorders.
First up was the impressive act of announcing a 12GB microSDHC card. And just in case you’re not au fait with SanDisk’s Wake Up Your Phone campaign, that’s the “world’s largest capacity card aimed at mobiles”. SanDisk said the increases in storage “reflected a growing demand for higher capacity storage cards as consumers use mobile phones for music, photos and video”. You won’t be able to get your hands on one right away, though, as the 12GB microSDHC Flash memory cards have been sent to major phone manufacturers for testing and evaluation. “The 12GB card represents a 50 per cent boost in card capacity from SanDisk’s industry-leading 8GB microSDHC cards, which are currently available worldwide,” a SanDisk PR girl told us when we could get her to stop playing with her mobile phone. “It highlights the growing popularity of mobile phones with storage-intensive features that include music players, digital cameras, video recording and playback and GPS capabilities.” SanDisk said a 12GB microSDHC could store a combination of 1,500 songs, 3,600 photos and 24.5 hours of video.
