OK, so technically the bloke who followed his sat-nav’s instructions to drive through a flooded tunnel actually did the damage to the vehicle. If he’d had his peepers trained a bit more on the road maybe he wouldn’t have attempted to drive through it.
The £10,000 Audi that took the bath belonged to a steelworker driving to a factory in Port Talbot, South Wales. The unnamed driver swam to safety in the 1.2-metre deep water. A spokesman for Corus, which owns the factory the tunnel leads to, said the company had put up warnings not to use the road as it was permanently flooded. “We have gone to great lengths to ensure visitors are aware that entrance is closed, but in-car satellite guidance systems are a different matter,” the spokesman said. |
