If reports from T3 are to be believed then Sony could be well on its way to producing an updated version of is next generation console that will shed the pounds in weight (although may not shed pounds in money!)

The reporter was doing the rounds at the CES last month and according to the story, they bumped into a Sony insider who gave them details of the lighter, smaller version. And Sony has a very good track record in making products smaller (i.e. PSOne, PSTwo, PSP Slim & Lite, you get the picture.)

Anyway, the new machine will probably use the new Blu-Ray laser co-developed by Sony and tech company Nichia which is smaller and cheaper than current lasers. According to T3, Sony isn't commenting on the rumours and that's exactly what happened before the Slim & Lite launch, if you follow the logic then the device will be in the shops soon and possibly sporting a big 160GB hard drive.

Rumours, doncha love 'em!
