The likelihood is that the modular mobile phone will initially be released as 1GB and 4GB versions. However, it could be boosted higher without making the device itself any bigger if there’s demand: “The 1GB storage can be extendible by our company up to 16GB, without any change in the device’s weight,” Dov Moran, CEO of Modu Mobile, told AbsoluteGadget.com. “We will go to market with a 1GB device and maybe a 4GB version, according to the customers’ requirements.” Also, Modu “jackets” – skins that the iccle phone can slot into to give it extra functions – will be priced at a point that should make them attractive as presents or frequent treats: “One of the biggest advantages is driving the price points of the jackets to what we call a gifting price point,” Zack Weisfeld, vice president of marketing at Modu Mobile, told AbsoluteGadget.com. “Phones today are three or four hundred dollars and come with a long contract, so you don’t usually give them as gifts.” “Through the model of decoupling the phone into a technology piece and then a desired function piece, we got to the point where the jacket could be sold anywhere between 20 to 60 Euros.” Weisfeld said that would make the jackets affordable for people to change the style or function of their device as often as they wanted.
