Archos has updated its palm-sized portable media player to pack in 30GB of memory. The company reckons that lets you store up to 40 movies...
...based on them one-and-a-half-hours long and encoded as MPEG-4 audio/video at 1000 kilobits per second for near-DVD quality. Still with us? Good, ‘cause the Archos 405 features a 3.5-inch screen and the latest version is equipped with enhanced ARCLibrary music customisation options and catalogues, as well as instant photo transfer capabilities. “No other pocket-sized PMP offers the personalisation options and flexibility as the Archos 405 30GB,” the company claims, citing a number of plug-ins and accessories. These include the Cinema Plug-In for playing MPEG2/VOB video files2 with AC3 surround sound, and the Video Podcast Plug-In for playing podcasts in H.264 MPEG43 formats with AAC audio. It acts as a mobile Digital Video Recorder (DVR) with a fully integrated Electronic Program Guide, so you can record or schedule your fave TV shows or movies at the touch of a button. A built-in speaker also allows you to share your music with your friends. The player was first introduced late last year in a 2GB version. The 30GB version will be available in the UK from the end of February 2008 and will retail for £199.99.
