Electrical goods store Maplin reckons we’re all getting a bit more security conscious these days, citing a massive rise in the sale of CCTV cameras for the home. According to the UK retailer, sales for domestic premises have risen by 70 per cent in the past year.
Maplin said it now stocks more than 90 different types of security cameras and CCTV kits to meet the demand. One of its most popular items is a system that allows users to check up on their property using the internet, no matter where they are. "As a major stockist of CCTV devices, we have noticed the sale of CCTV equipment has rocketed in recent years,” said Maplin marketing director David O'Reilly said. "This trend reveals that it's not just the rich and famous who invest in high-tech security equipment, as more and more people look to take greater precautions to secure their homes." Cameras are available at the store for as little as £29.99, with premium kit costing up to £150. Customers in Leeds bought the most CCTV kits in Maplin stores last year, with Swansea seeing the second highest sales and Nottingham in third place.
