PsychoFancy a drop of the dark stuff? No, we’re not offering you a Guinness, we’re suggesting the kind of entertainment you like if a study by LG and Empire magazine is to be believed. It seems that consumer viewing trends are shifting, with 31 per cent of all respondents enjoying watching 'dark' films outside of traditional environments such as the cinema and living room. LG reckons its new range of monitors can help, though...

"Movies that fall within the 'dark' genre often have a tendency to push imaging technology to its very limit, especially when content is of dark colours and of a similar shading,” said Fiona Landsberg, IT marketing manager at LG Electronics.

“With computers becoming the home's entertainment hub, many current monitors are technically unable to reproduce the original colours and shades as they were not designed for multimedia applications.”

Landsberg said that LG's new family of high-end computer monitors is equipped with a world-leading contrast ratio of 10,000:1, giving consumers “image clarity and colour definition not previously seen on smaller screens”.

"Recent advances in imaging technology are finally allowing these timeless 'dark' movies to appear on screen exactly how the director would have envisaged,” she said.

“Our latest technology will further enhance this and give people the opportunity to completely re-experience their favourites and, in the case of Psycho, be scared witless all over again."

Enough of the science stuff, though. What did the film fans pick as the nation's favourite 'dark' movies?
