Those who bothered to read our headline will already know that classic 1960 thriller Psycho was voted number one almost 50 years after its creation.

Psycho helmer Alfred Hitchcock was also judged to be the most influential director for the 'dark' side.

Meanwhile, Anthony Hopkins and Angelina Jolie are the most popular actor and actress for this genre.

"The films chosen by the public span many decades and it's great to see that a masterpiece like Psycho still gains the recognition it rightly deserves," said Landsberg.
