Palm Centro hits the UK

Palm CentroWe told you about the Palm Centro about a month ago. But don’t take our word about the new tiny smartphone, hit the shops and check one out for yourself...

Released today, Palm said the Centro would bring the ease of use of its products to traditional mobile phone users in the UK.

The new device, which is the smallest Palm ever, has a touch screen and full keyboard.

“Consumers who are thinking about stepping up to use a smartphone will find Centro the perfect first choice, offering so many ways to keep in touch – it’s rich in features in a small, cool design,” said Roy Bedlow, vice president of Palm in the Europe, Middle East and Africa regions.

When we posted news a month ago the Centro was priced at £199. And while that’s still the RRP, retailers such as Expansys have already knocked 20-quid off it.

There’s no GPS on board, but it does come equipped with Google Maps so you can search and find where you need to go.

The Palm Centro currently comes in Onyx (that’s black to you and me).

The US has a few colours to choose from, including a classy white edition, but there’s no word on if or when we’ll be getting our hands on those over here.

Palm said the Centro was designed as a superior phone, messaging and organisational device, allowing users to effortlessly connect by voice, text or email (although the latter requires Exchange Server 2003 with Service Pack 2 or Exchange Server 2007 and access enabled by IT administrator).

Expect a review when we’ve put it fully through it’s paces.
