HD DVD has already been knocked out in the high-definition boxing bout. But the format did struggle to its feet and land a surprising blow when a single disc sold on eBay for $400.
Many people might think HD DVD discs are going to become collector’s items and the copy of Bee Movie that sold on the auction site definitely was. That was proved by a question posted on the auction page. “Do you really have the Hd-dvd Version of this movie? I was under the impression it was canceled [sic] by the publisher,” a potential buyer asked. “Do [sic] to all the email I am getting I can not respond to all. I do have the Bee Movie,” the seller kyla4747 said. “If you do not believe I do then pls do not bid. Thanks.” The question is understandable, because DreamWorks did indeed cancel the sale of the HD DVD version of Bee Movie when Toshiba pulled out of the high-def war. What is on sale is clearly an early version from the stock already produced before DreamWorks came to its decision. If the company realised it could charge up to $400 each, it probably would have put the HD DVD into full production! |
