Super -Type SNESTime: 9am Pacific. Objective: download some serious fun every week from the Nintendo Wii Shop Channel. This week’s missions, should you choose to splash the Wii Points, could see you wandering through miles of uncharted caves or fighting a galactic battle...

First up is the single-player game Spelunker, which fans of the NES console should remember (and if you don’t know what an NES console is ask your dad).

Now you can relive the retro fun of searching the legendary underground pyramid and its vast treasures, swinging from ropes and ladders, running across unstable terrain and down ravines, operating elevators, mining carts and rafts.

You will collect keys, bombs, flares and valuable items, but beware of the steam vents, poisonous bats and the avenging spirits of dead spelunkers that lurk in every corner of this underground labyrinth.

Meanwhile, if you fancy heading into the stars rather than heading underground, Super R-Type is for you.

This classic single-player game from the Super NES sees you pilot the revolutionary R-9 to defend Earth from alien attack.

Fight through seven challenging stages, collecting power-ups and taking down end-of-level bosses.

You'll need lightning reflexes, intuitive moves and a big dose of cosmic luck to hold your own.

Spelunker is available in North America for 500 Wii Points, while Super R-Type will set you back 800 Wii Points.
