A free-ranging Virgin Mobile spokesman said the Liberty SIM was all about freedom. “That’s why the tariff gives customers the freedom to cancel their contract with just 30 days notice,” he said. “And from 1 April, changes to porting laws mean customers will be able to transfer their existing number from any network to Virgin Mobile in the space of two days.” Graeme Oxby, Virgin Mobile’s MD, said many people don’t realise that the supposedly ‘free’ handset they are offered with a monthly contract is actually subsidised by increased monthly rates. “Liberty SIM is a great alternative for people who are currently happy with their handset and would rather save £10 per month than pay extra for a new phone when there’s nothing wrong with their old one,” he said. The first Liberty SIMs are available now from Virgin Media stores nationwide, online at the company’s website or over the phone on 0845 600 0070.
