CDs might be getting on a bit, but they’re still pretty useful when it comes to chucking stuff on the car stereo. If you want to expand your choices to more modern methods, Sony’s MEX-BT3600U in-car CD tuner also lets you listen to all your digital music via USB or Bluetooth.
The MEX-BT3600U allows you to either plug in your USB digital music player, or enjoy high-quality stereo audio streamed from a Bluetooth compatible Walkman or mobile phone.
A USB port on the front panel allows direct connection with compatible digital music players, including ultra-quick searching from your MP3 music library on the LCD display.
MP3 tracks are displayed on the Quick-BrowZer interface, which allows you to look through your MP3 music library using the front panel’s rotary controller.
A front panel AUX input also connects with the headphone output of any personal audio player.
Sony says the feature-packed unit also makes hands-free calling safe and easy by connecting with your Bluetooth mobile phone.
“The in-dash head unit links wirelessly to the growing range of mobile phones from Sony Ericsson and other manufacturers that support Bluetooth connectivity,” a Sony suit said.
“At the touch of a button it’s easy to accept hands-free calls while you’re driving, with no need for connecting cables, phone cradles or obtrusive car kits.”
The unit includes “a sensitive, high-quality microphone with echo cancellation technology” concealed behind the front panel, while the other party’s voice is heard through your car speakers.
Music is paused automatically when a call is accepted and then resumes when the call is ended.
Key functions can also be controlled using the supplied card-sized infrared remote.
