It might seem a bit late to anyone already happily surfing away on their laptop, but O2 has finally joined the mobile broadband party. Its plug-and-play system will cost you £20 a month for an 18-month contract, or you can shell out £119.99 for the USB dongle and have a rolling cost of £20 a month.
O2 said it was late to market because it was focused on getting the customer experience right before launching new services. “We are confident our broadband services complete a great communication experience for our customers however they want to connect to the internet, whether that be at home, on their mobile phone or laptop,” said Sally Cowdry, UK MD of O2. O2 Mobile Broadband allows internet access via the O2 mobile network or unlimited Wi-Fi use every month at 7,500 free hotspots in the UK. Users have a 3GB per month allowance on the mobile phone network, with a charge of £0.20 for every MB of data over that – although this charge will be waived for Consumer Pay Monthly customers for a promotional period until 31 October 2008. The service is available to O2 Pay Monthly, O2 Home Broadband customers & O2 Pay & Go customers (subject to £30 per quarter top-up). However, if your O2 mobile phone or O2 Home Broadband are disconnected during your minimum term, or your don’t meet the minimum top-up requirements then Mobile Broadband will be charged at £30 per month for the remainder of your minimum term. The service offers 24/7 support from a UK call centre. |
