John Barton has been giving the game away for weeks when it comes to the name of LG’s third Black Series handset. “What’s it going to be called? I can’t tell you it’s Secret,” was always his response to journalists. But today the UK and Ireland sales and marketing manager pulled the wraps off the LG Secret at the European launch in London...
As a huge version of the phone revolved into view on a moving wall, Barton joked that, “It’s probably a little bit bigger than you were expecting!”
But the real Secret doesn’t have to worry about size, clocking in at 11.8mm thick – which LG says makes it the thinnest phone to boast a 5-megapixel camera.
Its biggest selling point, judging by the number of times it was mentioned, is the Secret’s mix of style and durability.
“Carbon fibre and scratch-proof tempered glass produces a premium product that is designed to stand the test of time,” Barton said.
For those of you eager to get your head around what it can do, here’s a stat fix:
* 11.8mm thick
* 5-megapixel camera
* 2.4-inch tempered glass LCD touch-screen
* Auto-rotating display, so images can be viewed horizontally or vertically
* Neon touch navigation buttons, which light up when touched
* Takes video at 120 frames per second
* DivX certified playback and recording
* FM radio
* Movie Maker software
* Google package, including Gmail, Google Maps and YouTube
* Access to Word, Excel and PowerPoint files.
Our favourite addition – and one that we hope to test out very soon – is the ability to use a motion sensor to play Flash games.
This uses a built-in gyroscope to play games a bit like a Wii. Barton gave the example of casting a fishing line, although he warned that you might want to keep a firm hold on the phone rather than flinging it across the pub!
