That naughty minx Gear4 teased and teased us about its latest product, but the Duo was finally unveiled to a room full of champagne swigging journos last night. And while our head isn’t up for many bangin’ tunes this morning, if we’d fancied bringing the Duo iPod dock with us to work we could have easily done so.
That’s because the unit comes in two parts – Duo, you see? – with a full speaker unit including woofer for home use, and a front panel that can be removed and used as a standalone portable speaker. One of the men behind the creation told us he was inspired by his Logitech portable speaker dock, which annoyed him because it kept running out of battery when he forgot to put it on charge. The Duo remedies that by keeping your battery power topped up while it’s plugged into the base, making it ready to go when you unclip it. The 2.1 home stereo speaker system comes in a sleek black finish with a remote control. A Gear4 bod told us iPod maker Apple “loved it”, dubbing it “a new category of product” thanks to its dual function. The Duo uses Gear4’s patented Seamless Sound Technology (SST) for a seamless connection between the Bass Unit and the Satellite, which means even during docking and undocking the playback is never interrupted. It kicks out a total of 38W, with a powerful 20W subwoofer in the Bass Unit and four tweeters in the Satellite. It’ll be out in a store near you in early June, with an RRP of £149.99 (€199,99). An optional Travel Pack includes a hard, protective carry case and additional Lithium-Ion battery for 20 hours of sound, for around 40 quid. |
