BlackBerry PearlThe name Research In Motion suggests the maker of the BlackBerry never stands still. And it moved a little further forward today when it announced a deal with Microsoft to include Windows Live services on its smartphones.

From the summer, BlackBerry users will have access to Hotmail using email “push” technology for automatic message delivery and synchronisation.

They can use a dedicated inbox for Windows Live Hotmail messages, which are automatically delivered to the smartphone, or choose to receive those messages and mail from other accounts in a single inbox on the BlackBerry.

They will also be able to use Messenger to send instant messages, join group chats and show off their own status while seeing the presence of friends and colleagues.

The Microsoft services will be accessed by entering the Windows Live email address and password once.

Mark Guibert, VP of corporate marketing at Research In Motion, said the company was always looking for ways to provide customers with a wide range of communications options and the best possible mobile experience.

“Our relationship with Microsoft and the addition of Windows Live services to BlackBerry smartphones helps us build on that strategy for our customers,” he said.

According to figures from Microsoft, more than 430 million people around the world currently use Windows Live.

Microsoft said the service would support multiple languages when it launches.
