First Look Review: Ninja Gaiden II

Ninja Gaiden 2 on the Xbox 360 is not a game for the faint hearted, with more blood, guts, and flesh ripping action than your local butchers, this game will have you on the edge of your seats for hours on end.

Created by Team Ninja - the master minds behind the original Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox - Ninja Gaiden 2 follows our hero Ryu Hayabusa through his quest to avenge his clan and save mankind from the evil archfiends and their accomplices.

Since the first game there have been some major improvements to the sequels, for instance your health automatically heals after every fight, - if not critically damaged - there are more save points allowing you to regenerate your health just before you fight a boss, and best of all there are a load of new weapons and upgrades available to keep the game interesting.

However, don't be fooled into thinking that this game is a walk in the park, with two difficulty settings it's far from it.

You'll need to use a combination of defence, counter attacks, and attack combos to keep your enemies at bay. And even when you cut off the limbs of your enemy they still find enough life in them to crawl towards you and blow themselves up in a last attempt to take your life.

Although Ninja Gaiden 2 is probably the goriest game of the year, the designers have made it in such a way that cutting people's heads off has never felt more natural. Sounds bizarre I know, but it's the elegant way Ryu's Blade slices through flesh, and the breathtaking surroundings that make this so possible. Once you've had a taste yourself you will know exactly what I'm talking about.

So if you want a game that has more onscreen enemies than a cockroach infested kitchen, get down to you local shop and pick up a copy. A final word of advice, make sure you take regular breaks while playing this game because there will be no time for blinking.
