vodafone_e172_hsupa_adaptor.jpgMobile broadband, we love it! If only because it is very hard for the wireless signal from our router to extend all the way to the pub. (Where you will find us most days, ahem, working!) But the cost of mobile broadband is still a little on the high side, so kudos for Vodafone for doing the right thing by us punters and halving the cost of those iccle USB dongles you need to go web surfing in the beer garden with your eee PC.

The mobile operator has dropped the price of the dongle from £99 to £49 on its 30-day price plan. And contracts start £15 a month for 3GB on a 12-24 month period increasing to £25 a month for 5GB on a 12-24 month deal. The company recently moved to cut the cost of going online on the movewhen it cut £10 off its monthly tariffs.

Not to be outdone, mobile operator 3 also halved the price of its contract plans, although its speeds aren't the "blisteringly fast" ones of Vodafone at present (i.e. 7.2Mbps).

Fierce competition in the mobile broadband stakes, so it will be interesting to see what O2, T-Mobile and Orange come up with. Go on guys bring out something REALLY cheap!
