Is GTA IV turning Xbox 360 into a brick?

gta_iv_niko_phone.jpgGrand Theft Auto IV has surely got to be the world's most successful video game ever (if we ignore Solitaire on Windows), but reports are circulating chat forums of the game's alleged propensity to turn Xbox 360 game consoles into over-sized doorstops.

A number of fan sites dedicated to all things Xbox claim that owners have had significant problems with the game locking up and causing the dreaded "red ring of death", which has haunted the console nigh-on ever since the box saw the light of day.

"I purchased the highly anticipated Grand theft Auto IV. Through the course of 3 days it froze twice, and now it's Friday and I got the Red Ring of Death," said one gamer writing on Yahoo Answers. "This is some f***** bulls***! Now I probably have to get my 360 repaired and I need to return the game for my money back."

According to Rockstar's official GTA IV forums, the company appears to be aware of some problems for both PS3 and 360 and their current workaround is: "Delete your saved game, and start over." But gamers are still incensed.

"This is not acceptable," said sonyboy69 on gaming forum Gamepro. "System freezes so you throw away all your progress and start over?? When these issues first surfaced, people should have stopped buying the game."

Others believe that as the game has been designed to have no loading delays within the game, it overloads the cache, which causes the Xbox 360 to freeze. Calls have been made on Rockstar to release a patch to take the pressure off the cache on the console.
