MusicStation has scooped the title of the UK’s largest digital music subscription service, according to its creator Omnifone. The MusicStation service, which is available exclusively on Vodafone in the UK, has overtaken subscription services that run on PCs.
“MusicStation makes the traditional ‘PC centric’ model, where users have to download music to a PC before transferring it to a portable device, an unnecessary and outdated concept,” said Rob Lewis, CEO of Omnifone. “With MusicStation, Vodafone consumers have the freedom to download as much music as they want, direct to a wide range of mobiles over the data network, anywhere, at any time, without the need for a computer, an internet connection, wires or even a credit card.” Vodafone users can make unlimited music downloads directly to their mobiles for £1.99 a week, including data charges. The service includes access to a catalogue of over 1.8 million tracks from all major and many independent music labels. The MusicStation service runs on virtually all 2.5G, 3G and HSDPA music compatible mobiles. Downloaded tracks are stored on the phone's internal or removable memory and these are fully backed up so that if a user’s mobile is stolen, lost or upgraded, the replacement handset will automatically restore the customer’s music, playlists, friends and preferences. |
