September date for PlayStation 3 PlayTV

Sony PS3 PlayTV set-upThe UK might be left hanging on for TV and film rentals from the PlayStation Store, but at least Sony's video-recording accessory will be heading here sooner rather than later...

David Reese, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, has announced that PlayTV will be launching throughout the region on 10 September.

So what do you get for adding an extra box to your already stacked living room?

Well, PlayTV offers a twin DVB-T digital TV tuner and the ability to save your fave progs using the PS3 as a personal video recorder.

You don't even have to stop the gaming for the kit to work, as television programmes can be recorded while you continue blasting.

Those dual tuners also allow one channel to be recorded while you watch another through the spare tuner - meaning those still using a Freeview box could at least remove one other device from their living rooms.

As is standard with Freeview tuners, there's a seven-day EPG to schedule recordings, with a series link feature to save you having to remember every week.

Those taking a PSP out and about with them can also pop the recordings onto the mobile gaming device, so they're never stuck for something to do on the bus.

And the cost for this new add-on? The European RRP is €99 (around £79).
