It’s here! The Eee PC 1000 is now available in UK shops. Expect to find a label attached to it with a price between £349 and £369, depending upon the model you choose... Two versions of the Eee PC 1000 are available, both coming in black or white casings.
The first is the Windows XP machine, which features an 80GB traditional Hard Drive and storage component for £349.
The second uses the Linux operating system, has a 40GB shock-proof SSD, and comes with a bonus 20GB of free online storage - all for £369.
Both models use the Intel Atom Processor, built using the world's smallest transistors. According to Asus that chipset helps “extend battery life, allowing you to stay in touch and connected for longer.”

The Eee PC 1000 comes with a range of applications that include:
* E Connect: “A straight forward and simple route of enabling wireless or LAN connections and cleverly offering the facility of linking up with other Eee PCs through a remote desktop feature. Built-in Bluetooth provides the user with the added functionality of transferring data more efficiently, and complete connectivity is topped with WiMax options (WiFi 802.11n).”
* E Splendid: “This image adjustment software can help bring light and clarity to a moving image when you feel the picture is running on the dark side.”
* Power Efficiency: “In addition to this new range of features, the Eee PCT 1000 is also equipped with the exclusive Super Hybrid Engine technology which offers a choice of performance and power consumption modes, enabling you to adjust your power needs and providing up to 7.5 hours of battery life (subject to usage conditions).”
If it lives up to the standard of the original Asus Eee PC and the Asus Eee PC 900 it'll be one hell of a handheld.
