Called the eee Box, the PC is around the size of large novel, measuring 222mm x 178mm x 26.9mm and weighing around 1kg. Inside the tiny unit is a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor and 1GB of memory. The box comes loaded with Windows XP Home Edition (we guess that this PC is not aimed at the corporate market then). According to Asus, start-up and shut-down times take too long, so it has put in a faster boot process called Express Gate which can go shutdown in eight seconds flat. There is also a PC Card slot, two USB ports, an SD/MMC/MS card reader and an 802.11n wireless connection. According to Asus, the thing is so tiny that you could stick it on the back of an LCD monitor as it supports the Vesa standard for attachment to said monitor. Handy if you live in a very small flat. The box will set you back £199 and will be available in September.Related Asus news Eee PC 1000 hits the UK Long term review: Asus Eee PC 900 Asus launch M70 laptop with 1TB storage Asus desktop Eee pc set for August launch New Asus Eee PC set to hit UK shores Pictures of Acer eee PC "killer" leaked New Asus eee PC shakes up market Dell punts cut-price laptop for the masses Asus to launch new sub-laptop at CES next week Review: Asus Eee laptop PC |
