Tom Bihn Checkpoint Flyer laptop bagThe US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) threw down a five-month design challenge to create a laptop bag that meets its newly implemented "checkpoint friendly" program guidelines. And Tom Bihn thinks it’s got the answer...

The Checkpoint Flyer laptop briefcase has been put together by
Designer and manufacturer Tom Bihn.

“It provides the TSA with a clear, unobstructed X-ray view of the laptop in the bag without sacrificing organisational pockets and clean design,” Bihn said.

It has a molded foam laptop compartment that completely encases the computer in 8mm-thick closed cell foam, which is available in three sizes designed specifically to fit the 13-inch MacBook and MacBook Air, 15.4-inch MacBook Pro and 17-inch MacBook Pro.

It also fits many PC laptops - see the product page for full dimensions.

The US-made bag is fashioned from 1,050 denier ballistic nylon, splash-proof YKK Uretek zippers, Duraflex Stealth buckles and Poron foam-padded handles.

It features:
* Over 11 organisational pockets.
* Back-pocket zips open to accommodate the handle of a roll-aboard.
* Quick-access boarding pass/map pocket.

Bihn said it requires less than three seconds to be prepared in order to send the briefcase through the x-ray machine.

The Checkpoint Flyer Laptop Briefcase is available for pre-order through the Tom Bihn website for $220.

It comes in three colours - black; black and steel; or black and crimson - and will ship by late September.
