We constantly
hear about global warming from lentil sandal-wearing hippies and unless
we can make a quick buck from our old tat we'd rather hang onto it
thank you very much. So step forward this website by the name of Gazelle, which has been buying up old
gadgets such as mobile phones, iPods, mp3 players, and laptops, regardless
of their age.
Over the past months, the company claims that it has
stopped nearly five million tons of waste from going to landfill. The company is a little bit like Techforward, a website that promises to
buy up old stuff when the consumers upgrade.
Users of the
website can list their product's
details and answer some brief questions about the state of the product
and the condition (a bit like what you do on eBay). Any accessories like chargers and such like are a
bonus. Gazelle is then able to provide consumers with an accurate
quote, which if accepted, will start the ball rolling.
A pre-paid
envelope or box is then posted to the consumer to send the gadget off
to its new home. Payment for the items are made via Paypal or
cheque, which can take several weeks. Users of the site can be even
more angelic by donating cash to around 23 charities.
If it turns out that an agreement cannot be made, then the item will be sent
back free of charge. But, Gazelle have claimed that only one percent
of all products received have ever been sent back.
The people behind the site hope to create an efficient and quick method
of disposing
of your old gadgets for cash. So what are you waiting for? The credit
crunch is approaching and this is a good way to de-clutter and get cash
for some more lovely gadgetry. Break out the dream-catcher and the
nettle brandy!
