Of late, Asus seems to be riding the technology wind. It's Eee pc mini-notebooks fly out of the doors of most shops. So it thinks it can work the same magic with a brand spanking new smartphone - the P552w.
The device sports a 2.8-inch touchscreen with a 3D-style ‘Glide' screen for
navigating menus with a digit. It don't half remind us of the HTC Touch though?
It also has nice fast 624MHz processor and 128MB of RAM, GPS receiver,
HSDPA/Wi-Fi connectivity, push email support and Bluetooth. Under the
hood is boasts the Windows Mobile 6.1 OS (you can't have everything!).
There is also 256MB of built-in flash memory to store your music,
pictures and other bumph.
There is also a 2 megapixel camera and a slot for MicroSD cards. As it
runs Windows, it can open up your Word, Excel and PowerPoint files as
well. And yes, you can IM your mates with MSN Messenger.
In addition to the Microsoft Office apps there is an RSS reader and software to view Flickr photos and YouTube videos.
There are some rumours that the "W" in the device name stands for
Windows and given the Asus is a Linux-friendly company there is much
speculation that a Symbian, Android and Linux version of the phone in
development. Of course we won't know that until some brave,
enterprising soul leaks some pictures.
