Sharp Aquos BD-HDV22 VHS and Blu-ray playerWe had to check the date. Was it April 1? No. Damn. How else to explain the fact that CrunchGear is reporting the creation of a combination Blu-ray and VHS player.

The company behind it is Sharp. And the player in question – the Aquos BD-HDV22 – has only been announced in Japan.

It’ll go on sale in that country on 25 November and will be available for $1,500.

ìNext to copying their VHS tapes to Blu-ray discs, users are able to record TV programs and videos stored in the HDD (capacity: 250 GB) in these two formats. In addition to VHS, the BD-HDV22 supports BD-R/RE, DVD-R/RW and DVD-R DL discs,ª CrunchGear reports.

Sharp reckons it’s going to produce 10,000 units of its new Blu-ray/VHS recorder per month.

For those who are so over VHS, the BD-HD22 model player will come without that option for $1,100 on 20 October.
