Samsung launches slimline 14.1-inch X460 notebook

Samsung Electronics has put its new X460 laptop on a diet but has still managed to cram in more stuff.

Following the recent launch of the "lighter than air" X360, the X460 is said to promise "even more functionality, allowing notebook users to go further and do more." Hopefully this laptop is noticeable enough if it got taken out of your bag on the tube!

Weighing 1.84 kg, the notebook features Intel Centrino 2 technology, a high performance graphics card and an integrated optical disk drive.

"As one of the lightest 14-inch notebooks in its class, the X460 brings a new levels of mobility without compromising on usability. By providing great performance wrapped up in a stunning design you can go further, do more and look great when you get there," said Dinesh Chand, Product Manager, Samsung Mobile Computing Division UK.

The X460 also boasts an integrated "digital motion" webcam for video-conferencing or live messaging.  It also sports a 10/100/1000 Ethernet LAN connection, modem and support for the Samsung P-Dock docking station, which is claimed to simplify connecting a range of peripherals.

The X460 also has a removable 6-cell battery as standard that is claimed to give up to 5 hours of battery life. There is also an option for an extended 9-cell battery that adds a further 7 hours of power.

The new lightweight lappie should be a bit greener than other portables. The 14.1" Flat-LED WXGA (1280 x 800) gloss screen, with backlight technology, is claimed to consume significantly less energy.

Samsung reckons that the screen is a third more brighter than traditional LCD screens and so should be easier to see outdoors. There is also a dedicated nVIDIA 9300M GS graphics core for better graphics.

"We knew we had to create an outstanding product to live up to the excitement generated by the X360, and I believe we have done that with the X460. The lightweight, sleek form and unsurpassed functionality gives users have everything they need for life on the move," Chand said.

The X460 will be available from September this year and prices starts at £999.
