Review: Wireless Poker Controller

The traditional computer keyboard wasn't made with online poker in mind. Online poker hadn't even been invented at the time, and some people actually wish to do other things with their computers. (They're such geeks.)

In your daily playing sessions you may not pay much attention to this, but when you think of it - the keyboard isn't really appropriate for long hours of online poker. Even less so if you're multi tabling. One of the most important poker rules for optimal play is to be comfortable and focused.

Impractical computer keyboard

Most of the buttons you'll never use, and the ones you use are spread out all over the place. You'll be rolling the mouse like crazy to reach all the tiny little controls at the table. There's actually a reason why people don't drive cars using a computer keyboard: It doesn't give you the control and comfort of a customized interface.

The Wireless Poker Controller

This limitation is addressed by the Wireless Poker Control. It's a neat, battery-powered remote control that replaces mouse and keyboard when you play online poker.

It's easy to grip, much like the controllers you use for the Xbox or Play Station console games. The buttons have been customized specifically for online poker. All you need is there: buttons for checking, calling, raising and folding. There are buttons to bet 2, 3 or 5 times the big blind. Another button lets you bet the size of the pot.

To place a bet of arbitrary size, you just spin the Raise-o-Meter - a handy little wheel that you use to set the bet size in small increments. Of course, there's an all-in button as well, if you feel like shoving.

Mirroring the controls at the online poker table

Without touching the mouse or keyboard, you can select the checkboxes to automatically post blinds, wait for the big blind to come around, or sit out from the game. And if you play multiple tables, it's very easy to switch between tables using the backward and forward buttons.

The Wireless Poker Controller comes with a USB receiver that you stick into one of your computer's USB ports, so you can sit back and play at a pleasant distance from the screen and without causing a cable mess.

Emergency button for tilters

If you have a tilt problem - getting crazy after bad beats - the Wireless Poker Controller could save you large amounts of money. By pressing the red Tilt button, you lock yourself out from the poker site until you've calmed down.

What a smart way to prevent yourself from throwing away your money in a fit of temperament!

Any fervent online poker player with a mouse elbow or backache will see the value of this little gadget.
