Samsung has finally unveiled its smartwatch, the Samsung Gear S3, today in South Korea. It launches in the UK next week.

There will be two models; the ‘Gear S3 Frontier,’ which features a rugged design, and the ‘Gear S3 Classic,’ which has a more refined design, like its forerunner, the Gear S2.

Each will sport a 1.3-inch Super AMOLED display and 4 GB of storage. The Gear Frontier has LTE connectivity, enabling users to make calls on the device even when their phone isn’t near.

Consumers can customise the watch face and switch the changeable 22mm watch band to fit their personal style. It also supports Always On Watch so the watch face always shows the time instead of automatically fading to black.

The Gear S3 will support Samsung Pay’s Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) feature, which uses magnetic signals to make mobile payments without the need for a payment card.

The Gear S3 is IP68 water and dust resistant and offers military-grade durability. Equipped with a built-in GPS, as well as the S Health, Alti/barometer and Speedometer apps, users can track daily fitness activities and outdoor conditions from altitude and atmospheric pressure to sudden changes in weather, distance travelled and speed. Additionally, the long-lasting battery can last up to four days on a single charge.

“The immensely intelligent Gear S3 is a testament to our focus on evolving and leading the wearables category and ultimately delivering a smartwatch unlike any other on the market,” said Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing and Wearable Business, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics.
