Xbox 360 HD-DVD add-ons sell nearly 100,000 units in US

It would appear that the HD-DVD bandwagon seems to be rolling along pretty well. After we reported that the adult entertainment industry is embracing the format, it seems that gamers are also warming to it.

According to figures released by analysts NPD Group, Microsoft managed to pushed nearly 100,000 HD-DVD drive add-ons for its Xbox 360 console in the US. The peripheral sold 42,000 units in November and another 50,000 in the run up to Christmas.

While the Microsoft's console sold 4.5 million units in the US, Sony managed to shift 687,000 PS3s in the country despite its late launch. But the PS3 has Blu-Ray built into the console without having to buy a separate unit, so there are still more Blu-Ray-based consoles than HD-DVD ones.

As reported on Absolute Gadget, LG has launched a high definition player that can read both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD formats.
