sony_blu-ray-bdps300.jpgFor us at Absolute Gadget buying a PS3 and getting a Blu-ray player thrown into the bargain seems a no-brainer. But those who would prefer not to be tempted by the delights of Gran Turismo, Sony has unveiled a couple of new Blu-ray players, one of which is aimed at the cheap end of the market.

The players were unveiled at the IFA here in Berlin. The "cheap" BDP-S300 and the higher-end the BDP-S500, both come with a free copy of all the Spiderman films (so you have something to watch on the player). As it is high-def, no surprises that it has HDMI output as well as 7.1 channel surround sound, 24p True Camera (which claims to show the movie as the director intended), Bravia Theatre Sync (which means that if you have a Bravia telly you can start the movie quicker - I.e. press play on the remote and everything switches on!) and wide format compatibility.

There are also extra Dolby TrueHD audio features and a motorised sliding panel on the BDP-S500 (which gives it that luxury feel, dontcha think!)

Both players will read discs of various formats, including CD, BD-ROM, DVD, and DVD video playback from DVD/DVD±R/±RW discs, MP3 audio files and JPEG images stored on DVD±R/±RW discs. The BDP-S500 also supports BD-R/RE discs.

There is more information about the BDP-S300 on the user manual (If you are into that thing)! The S300 comes out in the middle of September while its bigger brother hits the shops in October. Or really you could just go out and buy a PS3!
