A TomTom sat-nav device yesterdaySat-nav’s not much good if your maps are out of date. So TomTom
has set up a dedicated service to let you know when new map releases are available – for a price

The Map Update Service starts from £7.95 per quarter, depending on the map version and the model of TomTom device.

It allows users to conveniently download new map releases through TomTom Home – the company’s free desktop software – as soon as a new map becomes available.

New maps become available every quarter for the duration of a user’s subscription, and each map incorporates all changes in the road network that have been validated by Tele Atlas.

"The world’s road infrastructure changes up to 15 per cent each year and with TomTom’s Map Update Service, TomTom Map Share and our latest map guarantee, users can now also keep up with these changes, providing them with even more accurate and up-to-date navigation," said Corinne Vigreux, MD at TomTom.

Vigreux said on average, a new map release includes thousands of miles of new roads and Points of Interest (POI), as well as unique Map Share corrections that have been reported by TomTom customers.

With TomTom’s Map Share technology, drivers can make corrections instantly on their device, inbetween new map updates.

Users can easily edit street names or speed limits, reverse traffic directions, (un)block streets or edit POI information.

By accessing TomTom Home, users can also benefit from corrections made by the Map Share
community.
