manhunt_2.jpgAfter more
than a year of wrangling, Rockstar’ s most controversial game
ever Manhunt 2 (no mean feat) has finally been given a UK release date.

The
notorious murder-‘em-up, which casts the player in the role of
one Dr Daniel Lamb, sees Lamb bust out of a mental hospital and find
out why he was chucked in there in the first place by sneaking round
and killing people horribly. It’s basically Splinter Cell,
except rather than shooting a guy with a tranquiliser dart you cut
him in half with a circular saw.

The title,
slightly toned down from its original state, was released in the US
last year to largely positive reviews, but the BBFC refused to give
it a certificate – effectively banning it from Britain –
due to its "unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone."

Lengthy
negotiations between Rockstar, the BBFC and the Video Appeals
Committee ended in March, with the BBFC agreeing to give the game an
18 certificate.

Manhunt 2,
for PS2, PSP and Wii, will bludgeon store shelves to a bloody pulp on
– when else? – Hallowe’en.
