Saw - The Ride at Thorpe ParkWe mentioned that Thorpe Park was adding a new ride and we were hoping it would be part of the upcoming Fright Night season. While punters will actually have to wait until Spring 2009, at least when they get there it’ll be bloody marvellous (at least that’s what we expect from a ride based on the Saw series of horror movies).

Thorpe Park and film studio Lionsgate claim Saw – The Ride is the world’s first ever horror movie-themed rollercoaster and will be “the scariest ride in the world”.

Like the films, Thorpe Park’s new rollercoaster will “test the nerve of all who dare ride it and visitors will be at the mercy of the series’ master manipulator, Jigsaw.”

However, the ultimate test of Saw – The Ride will be a ‘beyond vertical’ drop of 100-degrees, from a height of 100ft – making it the steepest freefall drop in the world.

Extreme thrill enthusiast Candy Holland, creative director for Merlin Entertainments Resort Theme Parks, is the woman behind the ride and she plans to draw on her extensive background in theme park and theatre set design.

Holland was responsible for the creative development of Thorpe Park’s Stealth ride and Se7en maze, as well as Oblivion and Air at Alton Towers.

“Anybody who has sat through a ‘Saw’ film scared and terrified beyond belief will have some idea of what’s in store for them at Thorpe Park,” Holland said.

“Saw – The Ride is going to be shocking and intense, both physically and psychologically, and is sure to give you nightmares.”

Thrill-seeking fans will be able to preview the ride when the official Saw -The Ride website launches.

Holland said she has worked in close collaboration with Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures on the project to ensure total accuracy of the key elements of the Saw films.

The latest instalment in the series, Saw V, premieres on Friday 24 October.
