Five joins Freesat line up at last

freesat_logo.jpgOne of the main things that bothered us about the Freesat launch earlier this year
was the lack of Channel Five in the line-up. OK so Neighbours and those
cheesy afternoon movies are not to everyone’s taste but we do like the
Victorian freak shows, sorry, serious documentaries about courageous
yet disfigured individuals.

The channle has been on Sky, Virgin Media and Freeview for a
considerable amount of tie and its absense from the subscription-free
Freesat was seen as something of a missed opportunity for the fledgling
service.

Users of the service need not retune or do anything to get the new
channel, it will just magically appear on the EPG on 18 November.

On addition of Five on Freesat platform, Freesat’s MD Emma Scott said
in a statement, "We’ve been looking forward to welcoming Five onto
Freesat since we launched – and we know viewers have too."

"I am delighted that Five will be available to Freesat viewers," said Five’s Director of Strategy Charles Constable.

"Our
launch will support three of Five’s objectives: to be universally
available throughout the UK, to let viewers watch our programmes on the
platform of their choice, and to enable as many people as possible to
watch Five free of charge."

The channel’s Autumn schedule includes such treats as Paul Merton in India, 1968
Unseen, Dangerous Adventures for Boys, Unbreakable and Axe Men.

Five US and Fiver are also expected to see the light of day on Freesat but no arrival date has been confirmed.
