apple_iphone_3g.jpgThe Jesusphone gets a second coming of a kind with an update to its
firmware that brings about a slew of new features and improvements,
including support for Google Maps Street View.

While the iPhone came with Google Maps as standard, the new firmware 2.2 update
allows users to see Street View, an eye-level view of places taken by
Google with its special 360-degree cameras.

Among the new features is the ability to download podcasts via a 3G or
wireless connection. Previously the only way to do this was by hooking
the iPhone up to a computer and transferring via iTunes.

There is also improved stability in Safari and updates to the phone functionality which should see fewer dropped calls.

Apple has also made changes to the way email is rendered in the mail
application. Auto-correction in the keyboard can now be turned off.
Aside from this, the overall look and feel of hte mobile OS remains
pretty much unchanged.

The firmware is available to iPhone users via iTunes. So it will need to be connected to a computer and downloaded via iTunes.

But those with jailbroken phones may not want to carry out the update
as the new firmware will not work with unauthorised applications or
phones that have been changed to access other mobile networks aside
from preffered network O2.

According to a post on the iPhone Dev Team blog, which came up with the iPhone jailbreaking application, the update "SHOULD NOT be applied using iTunes if you want the chance of a soft-unlock in the near future." So kids you’ve been warned!

There have also been reports that the update has caused some users to complain about blurry pictures, sound and auto brightness problems.
